St Nicholas Grove Hotel, Hisaronu: Review and Photos

Photos are at the bottom of this page. In July/August 2006, we needed a quick holiday break and decided to go to Turkey. There were a couple of reasons for this. Firstly, we had been to Turkey before so know it's a good bet for great weather, beautiful scenery and beaches and good entertainment. So, after searching around we were offered the St Nicholas Grove Hotel in Hisaronu. Hisaronu is near to Olu Deniz and Fethiye - an area we know well. If you've found this page, you probably know there aren't many reviews for this hotel online but if you've booked this should reassure you. The Saint Nicholas Grove Hotel was superb. Part of the larger Nicholas Group (International) who also own the Nicholas Park Hotel and St Nicholas Gardens Apartments. They also rent out and sell houses - see here.

The St Nicholas Grove Hotel is a pretty small hotel and made for a very relaxing but still fun holiday. The hotel is located right in the centre of Hisaronu.. so you'd think oh no, must be noisy but it wasn't which made the location ideal. The staff at Nicholas Grove Hotel reinforced all the positive experiences we've had with Turkish people on previous visits. The staff are warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We would particularly like to say hello to Fatih on Reception who was always helpful even when he was not working!

The rooms at the hotel are basic - that is not a criticism as the rooms were lovely and clean. Don't expect a TV, hair-dryer etc but do expect to come back to rooms cleaned perfectly by the lovely, pleasant maids. All rooms more or less have a view over the pool and have a nice balcony to sit out on.

The grounds of St Nicholas Grove are well-maintained, the pool is crystal clear and cleaned daily. There is a restaurant and bar on site and we found the food to be excellent with fun and friendly staff behind the bar. The bar at Nicholas Grove Hotel is also well-priced, with the price of 3.50 YTL for a large beer matching the prices of bars in town. Breakfast was nice - mixture of cheeses, meats and bread although we didn't make it up in time that often! For evening meals, you really have a massive choice and can eat at a different restaurant every night. Typically, for two including a starter, drink and main the bill was around the 50 YTL mark and we didn't have a bad meal the whole time we were there. Our favourite restaurant though was an Italian, pretty much the first on the left as you walk into Hisaronu from the St Nicholas Grove Hotel.

There are two daily bus services to Olu Deniz beach (a 10 - 15 min ride away) which link the Nicholas Group Hotels (you can use facilities at any of the group hotels). However, the bus takes you to Nicholas Hotels private beach (Genc), which is nice but we prefer other parts of the beach on the blue lagoon. But, if you want to go to these other parts, you need to take the dolmus (bus) from around the corner as the Nicholas bus will only drop at their own beach. The dolmus ride is inexpensive and fun.

At Olu Deniz there are plenty of activities to take part in. You can do the normal stuff - rent pedalo boats, or be more adventurous - for example, paragliding, microlights and the like are all available. We rented a speedboat from OluDeniz for the day (10am - 4pm) for £52 - a bargain especially as that was split between four of us.

This is just a quick post to the website to give an overview regarding the hotel. You'll be pleased you booked it - we were. We will try to add more detail to this review soon. In the meantime, we've provided a few photos below of St Nicholas Grove, Hisaronu, Fethiye and Olu Deniz.
